About SAFET
Our Mission
A future where technology empowers seafood and fisheries to sustainably manage marine resources.
Who We Are
The Seafood and Fisheries Emerging Technologies – SAFET is a U.S. non-profit initiative founded in 2014 that serves as an impartial global platform bridging the gap between technology solution providers and the needs of the seafood and fisheries sector. We convene fishers, regulators, industry leaders, scientists, and technology providers to accelerate solutions that drive sustainable fishing, build healthy oceans, strengthen resilient communities, and ensure transparent, trusted supply chains.
Why SAFET Matters
The global seafood and fisheries sector faces mounting challenges: overfishing, illegal and unreported fishing, climate change, and opaque supply chains that undermine both ecosystems and livelihoods. At the same time, emerging technologies are opening opportunities to reduce seafood fraud, cut carbon footprints, protect habitats, improve climate resilience, and strengthen market access. These innovations create fairer, more profitable outcomes for fishing communities while supporting long-term ocean health.
While innovation is advancing, progress in reaching sustainability goals is still slow, with adoption of new tools often fragmented and uneven. SAFET works to speed this transition by connecting providers and users, ensuring that solutions are accessible when and where they are needed, and scaling impact across the sector.
